Effects of chloride on the growth and nutrient absorption of Brassica campestris L. ssp. Pekinesis (Lour)Olsson

  • In the greenhouse, pot experiments were conducted to study the effects of Chloride (0, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2 mol/L) on the growth, root activities, leaf chlorophyll content, Cl-1, N, P and K contents and accumulations of the Chinese cabbage Brassica campestris L. ssp. Pekinesis (Lour) Olsson seedlings. The results showed the growth of seedlings were not significantly different between treatment of low Cl and control, the biomass, leaf chlorophyll content and root activities were decreased significantly under middle and high Cl conditions. Cl-content in shoot and root increased significantly with the Cl-concentration, but the Cl- accumulation under middle Cl- was higher than those of other treatments. Chloride stress decreased the accumulations of N, P and K, indicating that Chloride stress restrained root activities and photosynthesis, reduced chlorophyll content, decreased the absorption and transportation of nutrient, and as a result, restrained the normal growth of plant。
