Effects of different anion species and various Cd rates on plant Cd content of spinach

  • This paper studied the effects of different anion species(Cl-, SO42-), concentrations and Cd level on Cd absorption of spinach(Spinacia oleracea)through pot experiment. The results showed that the Cd accumulation of spinach was increased with soil Cd concentration. The Cd concentration of spinach ranged from 11 to 17 and from 10 to 43 times higher compared with the control by 1mg/kg and 5 mg/kg Cd treatment, respectively. When Cl- was added, both Cd uptake by spinach and Cd concentration in soil solution were increased. The Cd concentration of spinach were 1.45 and 2.31 times of the control at 5 mmol/kg and 10mmol/kg Cl- treatment, respectively. The 5 mmol/kg SO42- treatment decreased the Cd concentration of spinach, which was 0.77 times of the control. The Cd concentration of soil solution had significant positive correlation with Cl- concentration. It is possible to decrease the Cd absorption by appropriate fertilization.
