Effects of nitrogen fertilizer application rate and management strategy on grain yield and quality of rice variety “Yongyou 6”

  • The effects of N fertilizer application rate and management strategy on grain yield and quality of rice variety Yongyou 6 were analysed in 2006 and 2007, respectively; in order to determine optimal N applied amount and management in Wenzhou region. The results showed that N fertilizer application increased rice variety Yongyou 6 grain yield. Maximum grain yield of variety Yongyou 6 was obtained(approx 8470 kg/hm2) at the application rate of 139 kg/hm2 with management of II( basis: tillering: spikelet-promoting: spikelet-sustaining was 6:2:1:1). N fertilizer application increased rice quality parameters of brown rice recovery, milled rice recovery, head milled rice recovery, chalkiness, Gel consistency, protein and glutenin content, but there were no significant difference among N application rate of 99 kg/hm2,119 kg/hm2,139 kg/hm2 and 159 kg/hm2.With the increase of N application rate, RVA peak, breakdown and consistency viscosity values decreased continuously, and setback values increased continuously, respectively. The influence of N application rate and its management strategy on hardness and adhesiveness of cooked rice texture were all significant. Considering both grain yield and quality factors ,simultaneously, fertilizer N application of 139 kg/hm2 and N management method of II( basis: tillering: spikelet-promoting: spikelet-sustaining was 6:2:1:1) were proposed for Yongyou6 variety in Wenzhou region.
