EFFECT OF SULFUR STRESS ON ULTRASTRUCTURE AND SULFUR DISTRIBUTION IN VEGETATIVE AND REPRODUCTIVE PARTS OF OILSEED RAPE

  • The ultrastructures and sulfur distribution of vegetative and reproductive parts and flowers with sulfur stress of oilseed rape grown in sand culture were studied by using SEM and TEM connected with X ray microanalyzer (XMA) The results indicated that sulfur stress resulted in leaf blade shrink, controlling function of stoma on and off lost, grana lamella of chloroplast loose and expansion (turgor), external menbrane destroied, starch accumulated, petal plasma hypoplasia, ropiness decreased; organella in stigmatic cell of S deficient were in desorder, plasma membrane wall in complete, cell wall became loose and thick; pollen grains were squat shaped, shrunken and deformity, pores were uneven, texture unregular and starch accumulated in the pollen cells with sulfur stress Therefore, it fully indicated the importance of sulfur nutrition for maintaining the cell normal structures and metabolic functions of plants
