EFFECT OF 6 BA ON DROUGHT RESISTANCE IN WHEAT SEEDLINGS

  • Effect of 6 BA(10 5 mol/L) pretreatment as foliar spray in restoring the metabolic alterations relating to net photosynthetic rate, chlorophyll content, ribulose 1,5 bisphosphate carboxylase(RuBPCase), superoxide dismutase(SOD), peroxindase(POD) and catalase(CAT) activities as imposed by water stress was investigated in wheat seedlings It was noted that in wheat treated with 6 BA, the decreasing of photosynthetic rate and content of chlorophyll was inhibited, and the RuBPCase, SOD, POD and CAT activities were increased, and water status of wheat seedlings under water stress was improving while the stomatal resistance and the content of malondialdedyde(MDA) were decreased Thus 6 BA reduced the damage of activated oxygen on membrane by water stress and increased the drought resistance The effiect of 6 BA maybe related with the change of endogenous hormones
