Rhizosphere talk and its impacts on plant growth

  • The rhizosphere talk is the interactions between root and invading root systems of neighboring plants as well as root and soil-borne organisms including bacterium, fungi and animals in the rhizosphere. The exchanges of substances and energy and transmission of signals are involved in the rhizosphere talk. Increasing evidence suggests that root exudates might play an important role in the communication between root-root and root-soil organisms. These root-based interactions between plants and organisms in the rhizosphere are essentially the competition for limited space, water and mineral nutrients in the soil. In comparison with the study on the single process occurred in the rhizosphere, the conscious researches on rhizosphere talk and its impacts on plant growth are just started in the recent years. The progress of these studies is currently limited by the lack of the efficient and useful methods and techniques. In this paper, new results and trends of the researches on rhizosphere talk and its impacts on plant growth are introduced.
