Effects of nitrogen and potassium combinations on the growth of banana

  • otassium and nitrogen are the two mostly needed nutrients by banana. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of nitrogen and potassium doses on the growth, yield, and quality of banana, storability of banana fruit, and resistance to cold weather of daughter plant. The results showed that N2PK2 treatment increased the fruit yield by 16.1%, as compared to the no fertilizer amended treatment. The N2PK2 treatment produced banana fruit with better storability and lower daughter plant mortality caused by freeze stricken. To obtain the high yield of 45t banana per hectare in Panyu Guangzhou, N 667~709 kg, P2O5 200~213 kg and K2O 748~851 kg is recommended with the N:K2O ratio being 1:1.12~1.20.
